Questions
Frequently asked questions
What the desk does, what it will not do, and what happens to your questions. If yours is not here, write or call: we answer within two working days.
01Getting started
- How do I start?
- Ask the research desk one question free, with no account. After that, a 14-day trial on Starter or Pro, cancelled in one click if it is not for you.
- Can I ask in Greek?
- Yes, and you can switch language mid-sentence. Judgments open in the language they were delivered in; the answer comes back in the language you asked in.
- What kind of question works best?
- State the legal issue as you would to a colleague: the facts that matter, the point you need authority for, and the jurisdiction. "Can a director be personally liable for company debts after fraudulent trading?" works better than three keywords.
- Can I limit the search to Cyprus only, or to one court?
- Yes. Before you ask, choose the jurisdictions (Cyprus, England, EU, ECHR), a court, an area of law, and for civil procedure whether you want authority from before or after the Civil Procedure Rules of 1 September 2023.
02Answers and citations
- Does it invent citations?
- No. Every authority in an answer is a text on the shelf that the desk retrieved and read before citing it. Where no authority exists for a point, the answer says so plainly instead of citing something.
- What is the difference between an answer and a memorandum?
- An answer states the position in a few paragraphs with the leading authorities, in about ten seconds. A memorandum reads more widely, deals with contrary authority, and takes 20 to 30 seconds.
- In what order are authorities cited?
- The order a Cyprus court expects: the Constitution and EU law, then Cyprus statute, Cyprus judgments by court, English authority where Cyprus law follows it, then the ECHR. Each authority opens to the passage the answer relies on.
- Do I still have to verify?
- Yes. CyCite is a research aid, not legal advice. Under every opened authority a line names an alternative source so you can check the text there before you rely on it in court.
- What if the shelf holds nothing on my point?
- The answer says so. It will not fill the gap with English or EU material unless you have asked for those jurisdictions, and it will not cite a case it has not read.
- Why do I see a list of every matching judgment under the answer?
- Because a lookup should show the whole set, not the four the drafter chose. The list carries every judgment on the shelf with your core words, with a court filter and a quote from each, and opens in the reader.
03The shelf
- What is on the shelf?
- Cyprus judgments, statutes and Caps.; English case law from the Court of Appeal, House of Lords, Privy Council and Supreme Court; EU law and CJEU judgments; ECHR judgments; UK legislation; and the Official Gazette of the Republic. The counts on the home page are live.
- How current is it?
- Documents join the shelf as they are published and the counts on the home page move with them. A very recent judgment may take a little while to appear; the reading time next to the counts tells you how fresh the figures are.
- Do I get the whole judgment or an extract?
- The reader opens the whole text where the source allows it, in a new tab, with a print layout that keeps the paragraphs intact. Where only an extract can be shown, the reader says so and names where the full text lives.
- Is coverage the same on every plan?
- Yes. Every plan searches the same shelf. Plans differ in how many answers and memoranda you can ask for each month and in how many seats they carry.
04Threads and follow-ups
- Are my questions saved?
- For account holders, yes. Each question and its answer, with the authorities it cites, is kept as a thread, so a paid answer is never lost when a tab closes. You can delete any thread from the desk.
- Can I ask a follow-up?
- Yes. A follow-up is read in the context of the thread, so "and for Lebanese applicants?" after a question on naturalisation means what you meant. If the new question is about something else, start a new thread.
- Can I print or share?
- Every opened authority has a print layout, and the answer can be copied with its citations. Sharing an account is not allowed: one account, one active session.
05Accounts and billing
- What do the plans cost?
- Starter €24.99 a month, Pro €39.99 a month per user, Bar €199 a month for five seats. Prices exclude VAT. Starter and Pro start with a 14-day trial.
- How many devices?
- One account, one active session. Signing in elsewhere signs the other device out. A firm on the Bar plan has five separate seats.
- How do I cancel?
- From your account page, any time, in one click. Access runs to the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds and the EU right of withdrawal are set out on the Refunds page.
- Do I get a VAT invoice?
- Yes. Every payment produces an invoice from Encelyte Ltd with the VAT shown, sent to your email and kept in your account.
06Your data
- Where is my data kept?
- On our own servers in the Republic of Cyprus. Encelyte Ltd is a Cyprus company operating under the GDPR. There is no advertising, no analytics service and no tracking across sites.
- Who sees my questions?
- To draft an answer, the desk sends the question and the retrieved passages to an AI language-model provider, without your name or account details, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Do not put into a question anything you are not entitled to disclose. The Privacy page names every processor.
- Can I delete everything?
- Yes. Delete any thread from the desk, or close the account and everything is removed within 30 days, except invoices, which tax law requires us to keep.
