How CyCite builds an answer
A statement of how CyCite builds an answer, published so that any advocate can hold it to account. The rules are few, and CyCite does not depart from them.

- 01
Authority is text, not summary.
CyCite retrieves the text itself: the section, the judgment, the Gazette notice. It does not answer from notes about the text, nor from memory of what is usually said.
If the text is not in the database, it is not cited. There is no “in all likelihood”.
- 02
Every answer follows the Cyprus citation order.
Constitution and EU law first. Then the Cyprus statute, the Cap. Then Cyprus judgments. Then English common law, as persuasive authority under section 29(1)(c) of the Courts of Justice Law 1960. Last, the ECHR.
The order is visible: tiers, not a list. A Cyprus court reads that way, and CyCite writes that way.
- 03
The passage is read before it is cited.
Each chip stands for a specific passage (a section, a paragraph, a numbered reason) that CyCite has read and judged to support the point. Never a whole judgment because it is “relevant”.
The passage opens in one click, in place, so that checking takes seconds rather than an afternoon.
- 04
An alternative source is always named.
Under every opened authority a line says where the text comes from and links to an alternative source. It is the editor’s line in a law report, not a disclaimer.
The advocate checks the text there; CyCite takes you to it.
- 05
When there is no authority, CyCite says so.
If no Cyprus judgment in the database decides the point, the answer says so in plain words, set in italic, and suggests what would help: a memorandum, a narrower question, English authority with the caveat attached.
A gap is information. It is not filled.
- 06
Judgment stays with the advocate.
CyCite retrieves, orders and cites. It does not advise a client, estimate prospects of success, or sign anything. A “memorandum” is a note to the lawyer, not an opinion.
Whatever leaves the office under your name, you have read.
A citation is a promise that the text says what you say it says. CyCite cites nothing it has not checked.
